History
Maine Coon cat is originally from Maine, USA. There are
a number of stories about how the race occurred. The most interesting is
probably that the people of Maine reached. They were firmly convinced that this
impressive and big cats were the result of mating between a raccoon and a
semi-longhaired wild cat. Raccoon called "racoon" in English, and it was from
that teroin the cat got its name. But the most plausible story is probably,
however, that the Maine Coon cat is simply resutatet of korsparningar of various
longhaired.
In the mid-1800s, it was first read about the Maine Coon
cat in a cat book. It was a
breed that fascinated and impressed the people.
In the early 1900s, however, the cat in danger of dying out as purebred cat,
when people lost interest in the breed when other, more exotic cats from Europe
was introduced in America. However, there were still a number of serious Maine
Coon breeders left, and thanks to their work and dedication to the breed began
to increase in number again. In 1953, these farmers, "The Main Coon Cat Club was
founded in 1968 and also The Maine Coon Breeders and Franciers Association
(MCBFA). Today, Maine Coon is one of the most popular breeds in the U.S., and
interest in the breed is becoming increasingly widespread throughout the world.
Sweden's first Maine Coon was imported from England 1986th Approximately 300 new
Maine Coon cats registered in Sweden each year (2001).
